<< review queue entry 33834 - submitted by 'thisparticulareditor' >> allowing for other terminology, incl. non-American spelling Editor: If we decide to allow for non-US spelling we would need to change the entries for 光导纤维, 光纤, and 玻璃纤维, to mention just a handful ... and perhaps many 100s of other entries with non-US spelling variations. I don't think we are ready or even willing to start on that. I think having just "fiber" is quite a good definition ---- 纤维 means "fiber" in the context of mathematics (fiber bundle), anatomy (muscle fiber), communications (fiber optics), manufacturing (fiberglass), nutrition (dietary fber) and textiles ---- "fiber" as a definition captures this succinctly. I think that having "fiber/roughage" as a definition would unduly emphasise the dietary sense of 纤维, and could make the dictionary user wonder if the "fiber" sense is restricted to "dietary fiber". You seem to be concerned about enhancing CEDICT as an E-C dictionary ---- our main concern is C-E. |
