While studying at Beijing Normal University, my professor told my class that
the commonly used phrase, when asking someone to swipe their debit/credit
card, is shua1ka3.
Editor: shows these things are better learned in the street than in the class.
We already have 刷卡.
The fact that in English you say "to swipe" a card doesn't make 刷 mean "swipe".
You can say 刷卡 when you use your card, even if you don't really swipe it.
Diff:
- 刷 刷 [shua1] /to brush/to paint/to daub/to paste up/to skip class (of students)/to fire from a job/
+ 刷 刷 [shua1] /to brush/to swipe/to paint/to daub/to paste up/to skip class (of students)/to fire from a job/
