Well, I am not particularly proud of my proposed definition, but I think it matches the meaning better than the current
def, when you look at example sentences. I think it's also better than ABC's "to suffer greatly" since suffering is not
necessarily involved. It does pretty well match the nciku CSCD def 深深地受到. Of course, 深受 is a construction
whose meaning is not hard to determine from the constituent characters.

Here are some examples:
1) 深受打击啊!!!日日被小朋友叫阿姨,无语!
(written by a 21-year old expecting to be called 姐姐, rather than 阿姨 lol)

2) 深受人民的爱戴和敬仰 ---- nciku example -- no suffering involved here! ;-)

3) 他因其清廉而深受大家的尊敬。---- jukuu
He "suffered greatly" everyone's respect? --- I don't think so!
He "was profoundly influenced by" everyone's repect? --- I wouldn't put it that way!
He "received in no small measure" the respect of all? --- what do you think, guys? Am I on the right track?

4) 如能带来本国音乐的唱片也深受欢迎。 ---- jukuu -- 来源 -- 汉英
Editor: yes, it's much nearer the original meaning
Diff:
- 深受 深受 [shen1 shou4] /to be profoundly influenced by sth/
+ 深受 深受 [shen1 shou4] /to receive in no small measure/
