From MoE def #1, it would seem dim/hazy would be better as
"vast and hazy"
Numerous dictionaries give "confused/perplexed/dazed"
which is not the same thing as being in a trance or delirium.
Our current definition possibly comes from a translation of the
term 恍惚, which appears in Chinese definitions of 迷茫.

MoE:
景色廣闊而無法分辨方向。如:「這冰天雪地,一片迷茫。

神情恍惚。如:「解釋了半天,他臉上還是一副迷茫的神
情。」
