Change log entry 29391 (2010-07-01) ycandau - 蒐 蒐 [sou1] /variant of 搜[sou1]/ #+ 蒐 蒐 [sou1] /to hunt for (sometimes used interchangeably with 搜[sou1]/to gather/to collect/Rubia cordifolia (a plant used for dyeing)/ + 蒐 蒐 [sou1] /madder (Rubia cordifolia)/to hunt for/to gather/to collect/ 蒐集 -- not just for collecting *data*: 他的興趣是蒐集郵票。(example in MoE def for 興趣) 搜集 -- can be data or physical specimins: 搜集标本 collect specimens; 搜集民歌 collect folk songs; 搜集情报 gather information; ... Editor: well, it's after some consideration that I decided not to make 蒐 variant of 搜 *as a single character*. At least MoE agrees with me. Evidence presented by dictionaries is inconclusive (see Z for instance). Of course, being close in meaning, they are used rather interchangeably *in compounds*. |
