<< review queue entry 30495 >> When explaining the difference between Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism, some monks and religious scholars will note that the "Big Vessel" contrasts the "Small Vessel," but as this characterizes Theravadans as self-centered and uncaring about others it is considered derogatory. Editor: hinayana is originally a derogatory term, as will be explained in any *encyclopedy*. Identification with Theravada is a bit hasty though. |
