well, I knew the word "bruin"(=bear) in English, but I couldn't tell the shade of meaning it had.
Richard found
1) Merriam-Webster (1913) -- bruin , n. A bear; -- so called in popular tales and fables.
2) Webster's 3rd New In't Dict: bruin: (name of the bear in the beast epic "Reynard the Fox") BEAR: a
conventional epithet esp. in tales and familiar use
3) Wiktionary: a folk name for a bear, especially the brown bear, Ursus arctos
Diff:
- 熊瞎子 熊瞎子 [xiong2 xia1 zi5] /bear/
+ 熊瞎子 熊瞎子 [xiong2 xia1 zi5] /bear/bruin/
