<< review queue entry 29693 >> Sedan/Saloon is an automobile type. Sedan is used in American English, while saloon is used in British English. Editor: Thanks, but we did check on the usage of "sedan" and "saloon" before writing this entry. Various words mean different things in different parts of the English-speaking world, but we choose to take American English as our standard for spelling and vocabulary. In Australia, we say "sedan", not "saloon", but I'm sure the Brits know what a sedan is from watching American movies etc. If not, the Oxford dictionary kindly explains that sedan "= SALOON" in its entry for "sedan". "The word has [braai] been adopted by English-speaking South Africans and can be regarded as another word for barbecue, ..." (Wikipedia). But that doesn't mean we are going to add "braai (South African English)" to our entry 烧烤 [shao1 kao3] /barbecue/roast/ |
