Sorry to throw this back on the queue, but for me, this
definition "to hit an acupuncture point (boxing)" paints the
image of a boxer, with those huge gloves, trying to hit a point
small enough for a needle. I think sth like the originally
proposed phrasing is fine. How about "to hit a vital point
(martial arts)"?

dukes up afterwards"
