Namely, a mammal in the order Insectivora. Their bodies are cylindrical and somewhat flat. They are approximately five cun in length (~6.6 in.) with black-brown fur. Their eyes are extremely small, they mostly live underground without any exposure to sunlight. As a consequence of this behavior, they have lost their sense of sight in the course of evolution. Their senses of smell and hearing, on the other hand, are especially keen. They have clawed toes which are well suited to digging. They prey on insects as their main food source. The are also called 田鼠 and 偃鼠. Editor: We already have 鼹鼠 in CEDICT. There are various senses of "mole" so I guess it's good to disambiguate -- (zoology) is an established tag in CEDICT.
