<< review queue entry 29020 >> saving gasoline -> poor English fuel economy = 燃油经济性 Editor: It may not be elegant English, but it has the advantage of giving the meaning unambiguously: "fuel-efficient" could apply to rocket engines, but not 节油, I guess. "fuel-efficient" needs a hyphen. An adjective like "fuel-efficient" doesn't fit in an example like this, I think: 为了节 油,他关掉了马达。 It's good in the following example, though: 小型的,节油的,前轮驱动的汽车是今后的趋向。 I'd say 节油 *does* mean "fuel economy" in some contexts, e.g. 论述了汽车化油器强制怠速节油系的原理... 虽然这中间涵盖了提高汽车节油标准在内,... The fact that 燃油经济性 means "fuel economy" doesn't mean that 节油 can not. However, we can leave that out of the def, as the noun usage is derivable form the verb "to economize on gasoline". |
