It seems that you can only capitalize the first letter of a word, and although 中國科學院 is two words (Zhōngguó Kēxuéyuàn, according to Wikipedia and ABC dictionary), 中科院 is seen as a single word Zhōngkēyuàn, and therefore, only the Z is capitalized. |
