In the Baidu article on Paris ---- http://baike.baidu.com/view/541057.htm ---- there are various Parises mentioned, but the term 巴黎 only occurs in the section on Paris, France. Paris, as in Paris Hilton, for example, is rendered 帕丽斯. New Century, among various other dictionaries, sees fit to define 巴黎 as "Paris, capital of France". There are rare exceptions to the rule that "巴黎 means Paris, capital of France". For example: "巴黎（英语：Paris）是美国肯塔基州波旁县的一座城市" (Wikipedia). But I would quote Edward here: "I am aware there are exceptions, but then http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exception_that_proves_the_rule". |
