Basically two meanings: 1. 往來 and 2. 過去. In Taiwan, I often see it used in the second sense, usually adverbally ("in the past" or "previous(ly)"). This use dates at least from the Han Dynasty [ 與吳質書: 少壯真當努力,年一過往,何可攀援?] and is not an abbreviation for 過去往事.
Editor: agree with that : 不提过往的事吧
Diff:
- 過往 过往 [guo4 wang3] /to come and go/to have friendly relations with/abbr. for 过去往事, past events/
+ 過往 过往 [guo4 wang3] /to come and go/to have friendly relations with/in the past/previous/
