In Taiwan, I often see it used in the second sense, usually adverbally ("in the past" or "previous(ly)"). This use dates at least from the Han Dynasty [ 與吳質書: 少壯真當努力，年一過往，何可攀援？] and is not an abbreviation for 過去往事. Editor: agree with that : 不提过往的事吧 |
