Doesn't the character with traditional 遊 mean "to walk / to tour / to roam / to travel", and this one is used only for swimming?
Editor: that's what simple people like you and me would think. However Chinese is not logical. 游 is used in many places as 遊, and this is considered correct. I have a nagging suspicion that 游 is preferably used for "to travel for fun", but this is not really supported by dictionaries.
I will take the opportunity to put "swim" first, though, it should be considered the main meaning.
Diff:
- 游 游 [you2] /to walk/to tour/to roam/to travel/to swim/surname You/
# + 游 游 [you2] /to swim/
+ 游 游 [you2] /to swim/to walk/to tour/to roam/to travel/
+ 游 游 [You2] /surname You/
