The Japanese loanword "mojibake" has been adopted into English, I suppose, partly because it is (or was) a problem with Japanese (as well as other non-European) character sets, and partly because the English "corrupted text" is ambiguous.
Diff:
- 亂碼 乱码 [luan4 ma3] /mojibake (nonsense characters from misrendering an encoding)/
+ 亂碼 乱码 [luan4 ma3] /mojibake (nonsense characters displayed when software fails to render text according to its intended character encoding)/
