<< review queue entry 2883 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> I found a website published by the ROC Ministry of Education, http://140.111.34.46/newDict/dict/index.html which is presumably much more authoritative on Taiwan pronunciation than Dr Eye. There were 31 words there containing 帆. In each case it was pronounced fan2, except for three words starting with 帆布: 帆布 ㄈㄢ ㄅㄨˋ 帆布床 ㄈㄢ ㄅㄨˋ ㄔㄨㄤˊ 帆布椅 ㄈㄢ ㄅㄨˋ |ˇ In all of these, it is the material sails were made from (canvas) that is the focus, rather than the sail made from that material, and 帆 is pronounced fan1 in all of these three words in Taiwan (and in the PRC too, of course, where 帆 is always pronounced fan1, according to ABC/Wenlin). |
