Webster's def'n of parabola: "a plane curve generated by a point so moving that its distance from a fixed point divided by its distance from a fixed line is equal to 1" (lovely!) I feel the tag (math) is not necessary, since "parabola" is readily found in non-specialist dictionaries, and "parabola" does not have a different meaning outside of mathematics. The hanzi reflect the fact that the trajectory of a thrown object is a parabola. :-) |
