Right? 1) nciku is usually wrong about fanti (does some sort of automatic conversion) 2) 癥 and 症 are both fanti, probably originally integral variants. Many people will feel that 癥 is the more formal form of 症. Thus you will find a lot of 癌癥 on the web. 3) what edu.tw carries is the current norm in Taiwan (which doesn't mean that everybody respects it) Thus you will find more 癌症 on taiwanese pages, especially respectable ones. 癌癥 appears more on PRC pages in Big5 (automatic jianti-to-fanti) or on personal pages. << resubmitted review queue entry 17890 - submitted by 'karanmisra' >> According to ABC and zdic, 癥 is the fántǐ for 症 for both zhēng and zhèng. nciku says 症 is the fántǐ for both zhēng and zhèng. And dict.revised.moe.edu.tw says 症|症 for zhèng and 癥|症 for zhēng. I'm so confused! [karanmisra] on a last note, I have verified that 症 is the correct fántǐ for zhèng, and 癥 is only to be used for the zhēng pronunciation. |
