Doxing is exactry the same thing
-----------------------------

Editor: I disagree.

Doxing and vigilantism are often a *feature* of 人肉搜索, but you can't say that 人肉搜索 *is* either of these things.

Doxing can be where an individual publishes sb's private details that he hacked, whereas 人肉搜索 involves *publicly* gathering the information with *multiple* contributions from fellow netizens.

Here are two examples of doxing. Neither is a case of 人肉搜索 because there is no element of *crowdsourcing* the search for the information.

1) "I'm disappointed Newsweek decide to dox the Nakamoto family, and regret talking to Leah."

2) "Ashley Madison was an online dating site that catered towards people interested in dating outside of committed relationships. A hacker group made demands of the management behind Ashley Madison; when those demands were not met, the group then released sensitive user data, thereby doxing millions of people in the process."

Also, 人肉搜索 can refer to searching without necessarily finding and exposing one's target. The following seems to be an example of that:
这一周里我通宵达旦地上网,我到网上人肉搜索他,发现有好多人都在找他。
Doxing, on the other hand, *always* involves exposing information on one's target(s). Moreover, doxing doesn't even necessarily involve a search. A doxer might have the information on hand already.
Diff:
- 人肉搜索 人肉搜索 [ren2 rou4 sou1 suo3] /human flesh search/a large-scale collective effort to find details about a person or event (Internet slang)/see 人肉搜索引擎/
+ 人肉搜索 人肉搜索 [ren2 rou4 sou1 suo3] /to crowdsource information about sb or sth (often as a form of vigilantism resulting in doxing)/
