<< review queue entry 54707 - submitted by 'kerui' >> Hello, i found out Your very useful dictionary has this term (方言) translated as DIALECT, which is incorrect. This needs to change in order for the dictionary to be accurate. I am sending you a link to one of MANY works of sinologists and linguists which explains why 方言 should NOT be translated as a dialect, but rather a TOPOLECT. BIB: Mair, Victor H. 1991. "What Is a Chinese "Dialect/Topolect"? Reflections on Some Key Sino-English Linguistic terms", Sino-Platonic Papers 29:1-31. LINK:http://sino-platonic.org/complete/spp029_chinese_dialect.pdf Please, I would like you to change this in a similar fashion to my proposed change, so that people know the correct term but still understand that the term ''dialect'' is widely (in public) AND INCORRECTLY used in all sorts of publications. Thank you very much Best regards |
