<< review queue entry 43354 >> This character is currently entered into MDBG with the following definition: "to steam in a sealed container/to feel stifled or smothered (dialect)" I was informed by a Taiwanese friend here in Taiwan that this is incorrect. He described what I have found out is called "gratin". His comment is confirmed by a google image search of the character 焗, clearly showing gratin and NOT "steam in a sealed container". Definition source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/au%20gratin Editor: per Rich's suggestion. Adding a (dialect) tag. XDHYCD: 〈方〉, HYDCD: 方言。, Longman Advanced Learner's Dictionary: 〈粤〉. |
