Editor: On balance, I think we are better off without "sandlot". It may have arisen as a misunderstanding in translating "sandlot" into Chinese as 沙地. In regard to "sandlot", Chad writes "It is an abandoned lot suitable for casual playing among kids. It has nothing to do with sand that I know of. It is more likely dirt or weeds. The term is most applicable to the 1950's, which is why it's more likely to be heard in a period film than in real life." I think 空地 is a better match for "sandlot". |
