Unsurprisingly, given the mouth radical, most of the meanings relate to the mouth: eat, laugh, prattle, take drugs, crack seeds between one's teeth, etc. So I agree that "very affectionate" is off the mark. In 磕糖, I'd say 磕 is probably what the HiNative person said: "to eat" -- so 磕糖 is literally "to eat sugar". Similarly, 嗑 appears to mean "eat" in 嗑西北風, which is defined by LA as 比喻得不到食物維持生活。 Anyway, I'm not going to touch the entry for 嗑 until we've done more research.
