1. 癒合is much more common in Tw than 愈合.

2. It's intransitive. Adding (of a wound) makes this clearer.

3. "fuse" is confusing. I think it's not any of the senses listed here, for example:

Anyway, "just "to heal" seems adequate to convey the meaning.

有人因騎車跌倒,嘴唇傷口未曾癒合,兩年後 ...
One patient suffered a lip injury in a motorcycle accident two years ago, and it never properly healed; ...
Diff:
- 愈合 愈合 [yu4 he2] /to heal/to fuse/
+ 癒合 愈合 [yu4 he2] /(of a wound) to heal/
