<< review queue entry 36997 - submitted by 'feilipu' >> 从10月下旬至年底,海口将举办9项重大文体、旅游节庆活动力促海口旅游升温 Editor: Nice one. Similar metaphor in English, of course. In the example sentence, 升温 is used as a noun -- something like "boom" or "growth". 海口旅游升温 can be considered the object of the verb 力促 (which is something like "to stimulate") As a verb, 升温 is intransitive -- to "get hot" -- rather than transitive ("to heat sth up" or "to stimulate sth") e.g. N ~ 总统竞选陡然升温。 The presidential election is suddenly hotting up. Example with both literal and figurative usage: J ~ As summer fun heats up, so does the sun. 当夏日乐趣”升温”,太阳也在升温。 As a noun (in the literal sense) ~ 全球升温 -- "warming" |
