no rich, I'm pretty sure the reason Wikipedia says (西方) is to distinguish it from the verb + noun meaning of 'to carry a sword', not that there is another type of sword that wasn't covered by the article. I say this because I know what 佩 means.

so tired of correcting your chinese. It is absolutely a military sword. I understand none of you actually know anything about the military or chinese, so I guess I'll have to deal with it or stop working on this. The individual and collective ignorance has won and therefore I've stopped working on it. It blows my mind that people who can't speak either Chinese or English work on a chinese-english dictionary.
