<< review queue entry 29706 - submitted by 'alanwatson' >> Not sure about this one. nciku gives the current definition - to lick, but MoE and Yahoo Taiwan give '探取﹑套騙' and 'to obtain by hook -- to entice or bait with flatteries' respectively. Wieger has 'To lick; to taste; to seduce'. 孟子 writes 士未可以言而言,是以言餂之也; which I have found translated as 'When a scholar speaks what he ought not to speak, by guile of speech seeking to gain some end;' Editor: nciku doesn't in fact say "lick", it's only on some word list from someone who confused 餂 and 舔. It's probably a common error. |
