See MoE. My teachers all use kuai4. Not sure whether this is specific to Taiwan
although my teacher is from Beijing.
Editor: PRC says "old pronunciation", as always, and it is the standard in Tw, as always.
PRC standard doesn't necessarily correspond to Beijing usage; also, maybe your teach is from Beijing but was raised in Tw?

+ 劊 刽 [gui4] /to amputate/to cut off/also pr. kuai4/
