Cheese name
https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%B1%AA%E8%BE%BE%E5%A5%B6%E9%85%AA

As a side note, case in point for adding 年近 - same structure
-----------------------

Editor:
1) I think I'll take out "Godard".
It's a Tw term, apparently.
戈达尔 is the mainland word, according to Wp.
And it's not a word we would add under current guidelines anyway.

2) Mainland term for Gouda is 豪达, apparently -- same as the city's name.

3) I'm only including the Dutch city Gouda in the def because it's where the cheese originated, and we already need an entry for the cheese, so may as well add the city.

"Gouda is a Dutch city south of Amsterdam in the province of South Holland. It’s known for its namesake cheese and seasonal cheese market, regularly held on the medieval Markt square. "

4) 高達 is {adj.} + 達("approach" verb), and there are quite a few of these {adj.} + 達 constructs.*
We include a few in cc-cedict to illustrate the pattern but wouldn't attempt to cover every possible case.
* E.g.
长达
多达
高达
厚达
远达
重达

年近 is of a different structure because 年 isn't an adjective.
It's {noun} + 近("approach" verb).
Diff:
# - 高達 高达 [[gao1da2]] /to attain; to reach up to/
# + 高達 高达 [[gao1da2]] /to attain; to reach up to/gouda (cheese)/

i don't think it means order in the sense 'sequence', e.g. 'in the order of...' this would be not be a good match. There's a note in guifan cidian to this effect too.

social order/the state (of society) seem to me more too specific than it should be, 秩序 is just order, and social order is 社會秩序. To disambiguate the correct english sense of order i think it's better to give a couple examples: order (as in public order etc)
----------------------

Editor: You make some good points. This definition was off the mark.
"public order" and "social order" are quite similar, so I've chosen some different examples.

客串老師的吳婉菁和陳奕峰兩位同學,事先準備了一星期,模仿老師的「Google文件教學法」、分組合作及導引式討論,但發現兼顧課程同時維持秩序很不容易。

而美國之所以如此堅決,與羅斯福對於戰後世界秩序的願景規劃有很大關係。

「人定勝天」不該是我們與環境的關係,尊重自然秩序才是永續之道,也才能讓令人心碎的輓歌永不再響起。

abbr for 學校名字/稱

Editor:
車程一小時後,「鴻文國際商業職業技術學校」出現在眼前,校名招牌上是四個「滬台合作」的醒目大字。
After an hour or so, we reach our destination, Hong-Wen International Commercial High School. A big, eye-catching banner hanging from the school's sign reads: "Shanghai-Taiwan Cooperation."

位於大甲溪旁的土牛國小,擁有一個土味十足的校名,常有人建議學校改名。
Administrators at Tuniu Elementary, which is located on the banks of the Tachia River, often hear suggestions that they change the school's name, which means "earthen buffalo" in Chinese.

由於長年受日本統治,光復後台灣學生仍然沿用日系的方型帆布書包,其上則簡單印著「雄中」、「雄女」、「建國中學」、「北一女」等校名或校徽。
After half a century of Japanese rule, students in Taiwan were accustomed to using Japanese-style square canvas bookbags printed with the name of their school, and perhaps the school's emblem.

民國八十三年,李來旺又將北富國小申請改名為以部落命名的「太巴塱國小」而獲准通過。直到今天,太巴塱仍是全國唯一一所改名成功、並且以三個字為校名的學校(全國國中小學統一以兩個字命名),令其他各族、各部落既驚羨又不解。
Then in 1994, Tiway Sayion applied for and received permission to change his school's name from Peifu Primary School to Tafalong Primary School. To date, it is the only school in the country that has received permission to change its name, and the only one with a name comprised of three Chinese characters-Ministry of Education policy mandates that all primary and secondary schools on Taiwan have names comprised of only two Chinese characters. That Tiway Sayion received this permission is a source of amazement and envy to the members of other tribes and tribal communities.

The cuisine of Taiwan has absorbed a multitude of foreign influences, but it has also innovated many of its own xiaochi. Take, for instance, the macabre-sounding "coffin board." It's made by taking thick slices of bread and putting them in a deep fryer until crisp. You then cut off the top and carve out the middle, so that it forms a container. Inside, you place a filling-say a bisque made of chicken liver, peas, potato, shrimp, cuttlefish and so forth. Finally, you put the top back on. It's akin to a modern soup placed in a loaf of French bread.

「閩菜多羹湯」,基隆文史工作者曹銘宗認為,小吃應由閩菜演變而來,例如肉羹、魚羹等;但也有部分小吃是台灣本土「發明」的,例如將厚片土司的麵包心挖空,注入海鮮湯做成的「棺材板」,就是中西合璧的本土台灣小吃。
Much of Min cuisine consists of soups. Cao Ming-zong, a student of Kee-lung's culture and history, says that many xiao-chi evolved from Min dishes such as its meat and fish stews. But others were invented here, including favorites such as "coffin board." The dish, a thick slab of toast hollowed out in the center and filled with seafood soup, blends Chinese and Western flavors in a local original.

「瞧他那一付棺材板似的臉孔,不知道又是誰招惹了他?」

生怕他那丧气的棺材板脸。

藤木直人人如其名长了张棺材板脸

+香菸, variant used in Taiwan (菸 not on 通用规范汉字表), only has the cigarette sense
https://www.chinese-linguipedia.org/search_inner.html?keywords=%E9%A6%99%E8%8F%B8

"smoke from burning incense" can be shorten.

Additional MWs from PAVC textbook.

Additional meaning for 香煙:
https://dict.revised.moe.edu.tw/dictView.jsp?ID=109874&q=1&word=%E9%A6%99%E7%85%99
比喻後嗣。因祭祖要燃香生煙,故稱子孫祭祖為接續香煙,引申為傳宗接代。《老殘遊記》第一七回:「他若餓死,不但父母無人祭供,並祖上的香煙從此便絕。」
(Some dictionaries also have "ancestal sacrifice" and some such but that looks like misinterpretation of the core meaning of this metaphor)
------------------------

Editor:
1) The (Tw) label applies when the *lexeme* is specifically Taiwanese, and not when it's only a matter of orthographic variation. The following dictionary follows the same principle, which is why 塑膠袋 is labeled (臺) but 香菸 is not.

https://www.moedict.tw/~%E5%A1%91%E8%86%A0%E8%A2%8B
https://www.moedict.tw/~%E9%A6%99%E8%8F%B8

Also, while 菸 is *used* in Taiwan, it isn't *specific* to Taiwan. For example, the following entries are included in MacGillivray's "A Mandarin-Romanized Dictionary of Chinese" (4th edition, 1918):
菸 tobacco
菸捲 a cigar
菸蔴店 a tobacco and hemp shop

And 中华大字典 (originally published in 1915) has the following entry:
“菸,草名,别名淡巴菰,一曰菸草。産自吕宋,明時始入中國。……釆葉乾之,切為細絲,可製各種之菸。……吸之無益而有害。字俗借‘烟’。”
https://www.zdic.net/hant/%E8%8F%B8

2) > "Some dictionaries also have "ancestral sacrifice" and some such."
Even the definition you quoted mentions it (祭祖). The expression 接續香煙 means "continue incense smoke" — i.e. continue burning incense in honor of the ancestors (祭祖), which is something that can only be done if the family line continues.

3) 香煙|香烟[[xiang1yan1]]
Double brackets are not used for cross-references.

Editor:
1) "Not necessarily credit card"
The definition already indicates that it's not necessarily a credit card. A swipe card, for example, is not a credit card.

2) "to swipe a card"
a) 刷卡 is not necessarily a "swipe" (sliding motion). It can be "touch" or "wave" (hold near) a card-reader. It can also be "enter the card details manually into a form on a website."

"防空避難 / Air Defense Shelter" signs are plastered all over taiwanese cities
---------------------------

Editor: 防空避難 is an *activity* (evacuation in the event of an air raid) not a *place* (air defense shelter). It's something you *perform* (進行), as in 本次演練亦模擬空襲警報發生之當下如何進行防空避難,..., not something you *build* or *take shelter in*.

Chinese terms for "air defense shelter" include 防空避難所 and 防空避難設施. A typical classifier for these shelters is 處. If you Google "處防空避難", you find that the term this classifier actually applies to is 防空避難所 or 防空避難設施 etc., not 防空避難.

E.g. 全台共11萬處防空避難所.
(Not 全台共11萬處防空避難.)

台北有4600個防空避難所.
(Not 台北有4600個防空避難.)

I didn't find much evidence of verb usage:
> "應該防空避難" 0 results
> "他們防空避難" 1 result
etc.
Google displayed 13 results for "如何防空避難", but that small number wasn't terribly convincing. Anyway, in general, if you are submitting a definition that isn't in dictionaries, typically lots of examples of usage are necessary to justify it. It would help this project if you could supply some of them yourself.

+adverb sense: not dialectal, standard, on HSK/TOCFL lists and many textbooks.

Both "some time in the future" and "some day" are adverbial as well as nominal.
Just like "tomorrow" is both an adverb and a noun:

Underground malls in Taiwan eg 台北地下街, 中山地下街, 東區地下街
--------------------------------

Editor:
1. 由於目前的經營者都是早期的傳統攤商,年齡層偏高,不擅長產品的形象塑造與包裝行銷,加上商品與鄰近的三水街、廣州街等同質性高,對消費者而言,特別走入地下街的誘因不足。

Thanks for clarifying that underground street" is a literal translation. Unless it's labeled as "lit.", it comes across as Chinglish or gives people the wrong impression. Also, we generally don't give literal translations of headwords, especially if it's obvious what the literal translation would be.

You recently added "underground mall" as a 2nd sense in Wiktionary's entry for 地下街. I think it's very likely that the 1st sense listed – "underground street" – was in fact intended to provide a definition for the same thing you defined (i.e. underground mall). The contributor who added "underground street" indicates on their profile page that they are a native speaker of Mandarin who has only a basic knowledge of English. I would say your wording should *replace* their definition instead of being added as a 2nd sense.

3. 似地 is used to form an *adverbial* phrase before a verb. E.g.,
- 她泥菩萨似地坐着一动也不动。
(adv. 泥菩萨似地 + verb 坐着)

- 梳在一旁的灰发,直直地垂落下来,像穗子似地挂在有老人斑的光头四周。
(adv. 像穗子似地 + verb 挂)

I don't think it can be used at the *end* of an utterance, with no verb following it, the way 似的 is used:
- 「好像不要錢似的,」
- 接著狼吞虎嚥吃完後又是一哄而散,好像他根本不存在似的。

That's why they distinguish 男孩似的 and 男孩似地 here:
男孩似的 boyish
男孩似地 boyishly

More examples of {(X + 似地) + verb}:
- 柴田警察班長將身軀用粗繩捆縛,從山上如吊瓶似地降落,...
- 如滿天繁星似地開放在錦繡大地上,
- 沒想到竟然奇蹟似地康復了。
- 台灣北部大屯系火山瘋狂似地劇烈爆發,
- 這句話像針似地刺向李淳陽:
- 像牽狗似地拉她出門。
- 9個月後更奇蹟似地戒除了毒癮。
- 整天像猴子似地在爸爸身上爬來爬去;

變裝 and related terms

Editor:

变装 seems more general than just cross-dressing.

https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E5%8F%98%E8%A3%85/4214738
>是指变装者身穿不属于本身身份或者职业的服装。
"refers to one who wears clothing unrelated to their identity or occupation"
And if you read the article further it talks about cosplaying/wearing costumes

Or if you do an image search, you see people who are cosplaying but not necessarily cross-dressing (at least, I don't think they're cross dressing...).

當鋪 is standard taiwanese variant, 舖 is mainland-ish
-----------------

Editor: Why do you consider 舖 "mainland-ish"? The character used on the mainland (铺) has 钅(金) on the left side, unlike 舖, and 舖 is not part of the simplified character set.

Editor: Thanks for the additional terms. They should all be one sense though.

Also adding a second sense, seen in words like 烤火

and 烤手:
>贾张氏有些挺不住了,在炉子上烤了烤手,见煤球正烧着,便回里屋
>她把蓝布包放在爸的身旁,立在炉前烤手,烤一烤,往耳上鼻上捂一捂:“真冷!我不叫你出去
>苏小姐因为鸿渐今天没跟自己亲近,特送他到走廊里,心理好比冷天出门,临走还要向火炉前烤烤手。
>在彼得堡的练兵场上,燃起了一堆堆的营火,战士们在那里烤手。

至於筵席常見的冷盤,在素年菜中也不難料理,就便利用過年習俗總會置辦的一些乾果,如腰果、核桃、松子;以及糕點,像發糕、菜頭粿、芋頭粿、南瓜糕等;

而在過年前幾天,就已開始做年節應景食品──年糕、蘿蔔糕和發糕。
