CFDICT project

The CFDICT project is the project to provide a Chinese ⇔ French free dictionary by translating the Chinese-English CEDICT.

As of October 2006, this is just a project under discussion.

  • Main Contributor : Hugo LOPEZ , French student in Chinese, able to make about 2.000 Chinese ⇒ French translations.
  • Strategy :
    1. Wait the update of CEDICT's format ;
    2. Make about 6.000 Chinese-English ⇒ French translations ;
    3. Build a French page to contribute online, such as this English one (will need help and host);
    4. Find better contributers to continue the work to 30.000 entries (French teachers and sinologues across France) ;
    5. [ One day : Merge the English CEDICT, the French CFDICT and all the CEDICT translations ].

I [Hugo] will start the work as soon as the first step will be stable.

Comments

I think CEDICT and CFDICT should remain separate files. This would ease maintenance. Merging them together might hinder the growth of CFDICT especially in it's initial startup. They can be merged runtime if an application would require both at the same time (unlikely situation though). — Dennis (MDBG) 2006/10/28 16:37

That's fine for me. Copy the Chinese + Pinyin of CEDICT, build a separate CFDICT. They have an application to provide Chinese + Pinyin + language 1 + Language 2 + Languade 3 […] datas. — Hugo LOPEZ 2006/11/05 15:19

You can also start from the HanDeDict dictionary - see our license file for the requirements. Michael @ Team leader HanDeDict

Make new entries into CEDICT/HanDeDict/CFDICT :

This is a key point to call world wide contributions. It may be useful to work on a Standart “submition page”, with shared and adaptable php sources, and which should be the most convenient possible. Then, every language user may, after request to CEDICT or HanDeDict, get the sources, and start a “NewLanguage-Chinese Dict”.
