That was added by me 12 years ago on the basis of a single J example sentence. 3) The rest of the definition ("digression/gossip/complaint") appears to be copied from A, and it makes 闲话 sound rather negative. But in fact, it just means "casual conversation" or "chit-chat" or "to talk about ...", and it can be quite innocuous.
