1) It's noun phrase: "locusts tied together". Not a verb phrase (like locusts tied together / in it together / to sink or swim)

2) I think we can use "grasshopper" instead of "locust". Locusts are a particular type of grasshopper.

3) Locusts and grasshoppers are too small to tie together with rope. You use *string* (绳子).

4) "in the same boat" implies that both are in a difficult situation
e.g. Longman ~ be in the same boat - to be in the same difficult situation that someone else is in

... whereas with 一条绳上的蚂蚱, the situation can be favorable
