<< review queue entry 63785 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> 1) 説 is indeed a Japanese character. ------------------- 2) However, it's also a Chinese character, so in a C-E dictionary, we shouldn't be saying it's Japanese. Evidence that it's Chinese a) 通用规范汉字表 规范字 | 繁体字 说 | (説) https://zh.wikisource.org/zh-hans/%E9%80%9A%E7%94%A8%E8%A7%84%E8%8C%83%E6%B1%89%E5%AD%97%E8%A1%A8 Confirmed using a PDF version of 通用规范汉字表 (i.e. a version that was not converted to text, and therefore not subject to conversion errors): http://www.gov.cn/gzdt/att/att/site1/20130819/tygfhzb.pdf b) 説 is the (hand-written) glyph used in Chao & Yang's 1947 "Concise Dictionary of Spoken Chinese". c) The Wiktionary page for 説 says: "This character, 説, is a variant traditional form of 說. [It] is the preferred form used in Hong Kong." -------------------- 3) Source 2(a) above demonstrates that 说 is the simplified form of 説. So we should change the simp part of this entry from 説 to 说. ----------------------- 4) Cross-reference format: We should include the pinyin. 說|说 --> 說|说[shuo1] -------------------------- 5) You need not read it for this submission, but Yves had some interesting comments to make on the issue of 兌 and 兑 here: https://cc-cedict.org/editor/editor.php?log_id=30783&return=ListChanges&handler=ViewLogEntry |
