Comment: * As a prism, seems equivalent to 棱镜.
* The other sense I think is really 菱花 + 镜. I can't find a good definition for 菱花, but it seems to mean the flower petal edging of bowls, plates, or mirrors. 菱花 is used more for the design pattern than for the flowers of both water chestnuts and water caltrops (lit. 菱花), which are so mundane there are few photos of them. On mirrors, the 菱花 patterns are generally Tang dynasty bronze mirrors.

Comment: 男人四鬼:晚上下班回家是穷鬼, 晚上9点回家是酒鬼, 晚上12点回家是色鬼, 凌晨4点回家是赌鬼.

"The man who comes home at 12am is a 色鬼" -- suggests more a womanizer than a pervert, but a lecher is essentially the same.

Some other "gui's"

穷鬼 - Wenlin has "poverty-stricken fellow"
酒鬼 - we have "drunkard"
赌鬼 - Wenlin has "inveterate gambler"
烟鬼 - we have "heavy smoker; chain smoker"; Wenlin has "opium addict; heavy smoker"

the word is identical to 色狼 as far as I'm aware
色鬼【漢語大詞典】詈詞。 稱好女色的人
色狼【汉语辞海】指贪色并凶恶地对女性进行性侵犯的坏人。【高级汉语词典】指狂暴袭击、 强奸妇女的坏人

if anything, it's 色狼 that should be "sex maniac"

Comment: A loofah sponge is 丝瓜络. Sometimes this gets conflated incorrectly with sponges in general. Loofahs show up in taobao searches only because the sellers are using multiple keywords. 澡巾 is the best match for a scrub mitt.

21,500 hits for 澡花 isn't compelling, image hits are a mix, and many of these are 洗个澡花..., where 澡 belongs to 洗个澡.

A puff is specifically the plastic mesh balls. A sponge is more general. A 浴花 or 浴球 could be either (esp. ball-shaped sponges).

<< review queue entry 41699 - submitted by 'xiaoxiong' >>
while 澡花, 浴花 and 浴球 are full synonyms, 澡巾 and 浴巾 are not, although 澡巾 sometimes does mean 浴巾, I've seen sellers put 澡巾 浴巾 毛巾 together when selling towels, but usually it means loofah

it's a bit hard to describe these things, see the pictures for yourself on Baidu/Google (or better Taobao, there's a huge selection there to give you a good idea of what these words can mean)

Comment: 萌芽 is a verb-object compound, so 萌 should be the verb form of sprout/bud

<< review queue entry 38497 - submitted by 'chad' >>
I took a stab at a decent format without being too wordy. Feel free to improve it.

The "people" meaning may from an old association with 氓. Sprout and bud meanings are as a bound form, but we don't make the distinction. The moe meaning is as a distinct one-character word, and is in common use.

Comment: Press board as seen in "热压板" (hot press machine) or 靴压板 (shoe/boot press board)

Usage as a see-saw is pretty rare, used specifically by manufacturers, and generally they are spring-based and not fulcrum-supported devices.

<< review queue entry 34895 - submitted by 'richwarm' >>
ABC says ya1, but all other sources I checked agree with ya4
It's spelled "seesaw" in Encarta
Don't need the indefinite article in the definition
It seems the more usual word for seesaw is 跷跷板 and google images tends to confirm that
However, it's hard to find a seesaw in google images @ 压板
It really seems to be a board used to apply pressure -- as the hanzi would suggest
This pressure can be magnified by using the lever principle, with a pivot point -- hence the similarity to a seesaw

Comment: As the MoE link confirms, this is the device, not the sound. There are many examples of "汽笛声", "汽笛鸣叫声", or "汽笛长鸣"; the sound word wouldn't be needed if it was already the sound. But the def can be modified to reflect actual usage. It is mostly used for ships, even when it's not technically a whistle (possibly similar to English , which still calls it a whistle). The train usage is secondary, but still in use.

Example: 浦江汽笛聲聲,霓虹燈夜夜閃爍...

Comment: 升 is the more common traditional variant over 昇. I will propose the variant character entry separately

There is a clear difference between PRC and HK/TW usage. Almost all Google images for simp. are cherry pickers or scissor lifts. There are misc. lifts including of screw-thread lifts which Wp calls "hotel lifts" but that term is uncommon. Despite MoE, these are mostly hydraulic, not electric.

Most trad. images are for lifts (stairlifts or wheelchair lifts), and elevators (but temporary ones for construction)
